In Manhattan's Upper West Side, a large rooftop space allows Marcene to set up a plein air studio. She works in mixed media, creating pieces for her solo and group exhibits, right in the heart of the vibrant New York City art scene. There she is exposed to some of the best galleries in the world. Frequently visiting them, exhibiting, participating in gallery talks, panel discussions, and sharing fellow artists' studio activities helps Marcene to constantly challenge and expand her artistic practice and let her creative vision flourish.
New York studio
The BOTTLE WORKS campus for the arts, in the greater Pittsburgh area is housed on what was the former Tulip Bottling Company. It holds resident artist studios, huge exhibit spaces, and a renovated green roof. Marcene enjoys the arts community, and basing her studio practice there. A dynamic arts organization operating two cultural centers in the historic cultural district of Cambria City, BOTTLE WORKS is proud to be Johnstown’s art mecca for artists to exhibit, create, teach and sell; musicians to perform; and visitors to explore, learn and enjoy.
With dual-residencies in PA and NYC, Marcene splits her studio time between these two great locations.
Marcene also travels often, working on location.
Follow her gallery visits & studio projects on facebook, as she experiences the arts in interesting places like DC's Capitol Hill, Philadelphia, the Florida Wetlands, Savannah, Nova Scotia....
Much of her current work is inspired by encounters with nature during travels to destinations like Nova Scotia and Florida Keys.
From coastal waterfront settings to historic cobblestone lined cities,
Marcene takes her temporary studio on site.
(These pictured here are Miami Beach and Quebec City.)
She traveled as far as Nevada for a portrait sitting with Congresswoman Shelley Berkley, and to Washington DC for several other Congressional portrait sittings.
